What is a Rhyme Scheme?
A rhyme scheme is a rhyming pattern of a peom, song, or sonnet. The way to indentify a rhyme scheme is usually with letters.
For example...
"How can I then return in happy plight A
That am debarred the benefit
of rest? B
When day's oppression is not eased by night, A
But day by
night and night by day oppressed". B
In Shakespearen Sonnets, there will be a rhyme every other line. In the example above the rhyme scheme would be ABAB. Everytime a new rhyme begins, another letter is added.
Like so...
How can I then return in happy plight A
That am debarred the
benefit
of rest? B
When day's oppression is not eased by
night, A
But day by
night and night by day
oppressed". B
And each (though enemies to either's
reign) C
